Little Charlie Visits Annie in the Hospital
November 23, 1966
One day little Charlie Bear was feeling very lonely because his sister Annie was in the hospital because something was wrong with her stomach. He did not have anyone to play with. He ran out of the house to see Papa Charlie Bear who was raking the leaves and putting them over the flowerbeds to keep the plants warm for the winter.
When little Charlie reached his papa, he said, “Can I go with you and mama to see Annie today at the hospital?”
“Well now, you know little children are not allowed in the rooms,” replied Papa Charlie. “But maybe you can come with Mama Bear and me this afternoon. You can perhaps talk with her on the telephone in the waiting room. Go get our traveling caps. We’ll be ready to leave very soon.”
Little Charlie let out a great loud “Yippee!!!” as he scampered back to the house to get ready to go see his sister Annie Bear.
When Mama Bear, Papa Bear and little Charlie were on the porch, they put on their traveling caps, whirled around three times, turned a somersault and there they were right IN Annie’s room at the hospital.
When they arrived, little Annie said, “Hi, Hi, Hi, little Charlie, all of you. I’m so glad you came little Charlie, ’cause I was getting lonesome for you.”
“That’s why I came today,” said little Charlie. “I was so lonely, I didn’t know what to do at home.”
In a few minutes a nurse came in and said, “No children are allowed in the patients rooms. How did you get here, little Bear?”
“I just came in on my somersault,” answered little Charlie.
“What sort of nonsense is that?” asked the nurse. “You come with me and wait in the waiting room.”
Little Charlie said, “I’ll be real quiet — and will not stay long. Please let me play just a minute with Annie.”
The nurse smiled and went out of the room as she saw how much happiness it was bringing to little Annie to see her little brother Charlie.
After about 20 minutes, the Bears said “Good Bye” to Annie, put on their traveling caps, whirled around three times, turned a somersault and got home just in time for Mama Bear to bake a blueberry pie for supper.
