Charlie Bear Visits The Fagot Family – Part Two

November 2, 1966

Continued from Last Week

When little Charlie Bear and Leslie Fagot stopped laughing Leslie said, “Hi, funny little Bear, Who are you?”

“Hi, yourself,” replied the little Bear. “I’m little Charlie Bear. My sister Annie, mama and papa Charlie came to visit your family today … especially we came to see little John.”

With that Leslie turned and saw her friend Annie Bear standing right behind her. She had met Annie when the Fagot family went on a camping trip to Sequoia National Park three years ago.

“Hi, Leslie,” said Annie as she recognized her old friend. “I didn’t know you lived here in Antelope Valley.”

“Well, I didn’t when we went to Sequoia. We just moved here in June 1964,” explained Leslie. “Daddy and mommy bought an old house with stone walls — even on the inside. But they’ve fixed it up now so it’s real cozy and nice. Want to see it?”

“Oh, yes. Do you have a room all to yourself?” asked Annie.

“Uh huh, on the first floor with daddy and mommy. The boys all sleep upstairs, except, of course, the new baby.”

As the girls walked toward the house they saw Mama and Papa Charlie Bear talking with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Fagot. They were standing outside the door where Mr. Bob had just put on some weather stripping.

The little girls went into the house.

The first room they came to was the kitchen. Leslie proudly showed Annie the nice new cabinets, the electric dishwasher, and the electric Mix Master which she liked to use when she helped her mother get the meals — mostly on Saturdays and Sundays.

Next the girls went into the room where tiny John was just waking from his nap. Leslie picked him up and the two girls started playing with him.

When the girls went to the house, little Charlie slid off the donkey and ran over to see what Arthur and Gregory were doing. They were sitting on a little wagon.

And were so-o-o-o still.

“Hi, Gregory and Arthur,” said little Charlie, “What are you doing?”

“This poor hen is sick,” replied Gregory, the eldest of the Fagot boys.

“And mommy says it’s time for the pot,” added 3-year-old Arthur.

“Maybe it will get well,” said little Charlie as he tried to cheer up the two boys.

Just then little Charlie saw Robert high in a Juniper tree. He ran over and said, “Can I come up?”

Without waiting for an answer, he scampered up the tree and reached the top branches in no time at all. Is there anyone who loves to climb trees more than little Charlie Bear? I guess NOT.

Mama and Papa Charlie Bear and Mr. and Mrs. Fagot went into the house to have a cup of coffee. As they were sitting down at the table in the dining room, Mrs. Fagot started telling how she had changed the old house with stone walls and only one bedroom into the beautiful home it now is.
