Charlie Bear Goes to Joyous Monkey’s Party
January 15, 1963
One day when Charlie bear was out raking the leaves, little Annie ran out of the house and asked if he was ready to go to the birthday party down in Pearblossom.
“What?” Ask Charlie Bear.
” Don’t you remember for Joy Ann, the Joyous Monkey is having a party today! “
“TODAY!! Oh my, oh my, oh my. We certainly don’t want to miss that. Is little Charlie going to?” asked papa Charlie.
“no,” answered Annie. “He’s over playing with the deer children, Danny and Davey. He says it’s a girl’s party.”
Papa Charlie answered, “well, if I remember rightly, the Joyous Monkey has some very fine little boys in her school. My guess is that some of them will be there. Why don’t you go over to the Deer’s house and ask them to go too. I’m sure Mrs. Monkey won’t mind.”
“All right,” answered Annie, “I’ll go and get them. But, Papa, PLEASE Be ready. The party will be all over before we get there if we don’t hurry.”
“I’ll be ready when you get back,” called Papa Charlie is Annie ran off.
In what seemed to Charlie Bear no time at all, the four children were leaping up the front path.
Charlie Bear went into the house, got his traveling cap and some caps for the children, and was out on the front porch to meet the children.
Little Charlie said, “I guess I don’t care if it’s a girls party. Birthday parties are always fun. Let’s go.”
“Here, Danny,” said Charlie Bear, “here’s a cap for you, and one for you, too, Davey. Here Charlie and Annie. Now – everyone has his cap on? All right. Whirl around three times, turn a somersault and here we are in Pearblossom. Hello there little Joyous Monkey.”
“Why here is Deborah the zebra, Donnna the donkey, Henrietta the Hen, Artie the smartie fox, Sonja the Conga crocodile, Pamela the pantha, Cherrie the chirpie birdie.”
“Who else is here? Why, there are so many children here I don’t think I know them all.”
“Are you all having fun?” Ask papa Charlie Bear. “If you’ll all come over here, I think you’ll each find something in my pockets.”
After Charlie Bear, Annie, little Charlie, Davey and Danny had some ice cream and cake and had played some games, they said “Thank you” to Mrs. monkey, put on their traveling caps, whirled around three times, turned a somersault and there they were back home just as Mama Bear was putting some hot rolls in the oven for supper.
